Как-то у родной программы получается быстро загружать... У меня вот загрузка почему-то дольше. Или кажется?..

Или хотя бы прогресс загрузки надо изобразить.
Рисовать поперечный срез независимо от загруженности слоёв (пропуская не загруженные), загружать в фоне, и перерисовывать время от времени с новыми слоями.
