We have presented and published a new conference paper detailing a Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) component switching model for the ORTiS Solver Codegen Tools.
Presented at the 2022 Open Source Modelling and Simulation of Energy Systems (OSMSES) Workshop, this new MMC component (already available in the codegen tools) takes advantage of the LB-LMC simulation method and a newly developed algorithm to simulate on modern Xilinx FPGAs in real-time with time step lengths of 26-32 nanoseconds for up to 128 switch modules. Each switching module is in half-bridge configuration with two switches and their anti-parallel diodes plus storage capacitor. The model can handle four modes of switching conduction for each switching module: capacitor inserted, capacitor bypassed, module open, or module shorted; based on input gate signals and diode behavior.
