Try using the new apk on the releases page, also there should be a popup on your TV to confirm pairing when connecting for the first time.

Yes, i'll add the settings button, the touchpad is something i'm planning on doing later when the app is more stable

Only the power button and the volume works. None of the other buttons work.
Also the power button only shuts down the tv but doesn't turn it back on. It turns off and disconnects the app.

That's how it's supposed to work, because the app controlls the TV through your home network and not infrared

Well yea, but so is the native LG app, it can turn it on and off.

Probably it uses a different method to turn it on, the API i'm using to make this app only works while the TV is on.
