IR receptor triggering without signal

Hi, I'm trying to follow the infrared tutorial to record the patterns of my remote control. But it seems that my IR receptor triggers quite often, in the console I have a constant stream of readings, it accelerates significantly when I press the button in the controller. Is perhaps a bad receptor?

It might be worth bending the middle leg of the receptor out a little so it's 'sprung' into the hole. If there's an intermittent connection, that could cause the odd readings I guess?

Good approach Gordon, but is not, is tight and keeps triggering. Perhaps I should get a different receptor.

Seems like it was the receptor, bought a new one and now it works.
