How to make initiator reconnect if acceptor is down?

Hello,

Context:

• Two apps, A is initiator and B is acceptor
• ContinueInitializationOnError=Y
• ReconnectInterval=5
• I am creating quickfix.mina.initiator.AbstractorSocketInitiator with numReconnectThreads=1
• Using quickfixj 2.3.2 latest

Scenario 1:

• A and B are shut down
• A starts up and tries to connect to B
• A throws ConfigError "error during session initialization"
• A does not try to reconnect

Scenario 2:

• A is connected to B (both are up and running)
• B is shut down
• A will continue to try to reconnect

From what I see, initiator will only try to reconnect if FIX connection was established prior. Otherwise it will not. Is this expected behaviour or is there some setting I missed in the manual that'll allow initiator to keep trying to reconnect in scenario 1? https://www.quickfixj.org/usermanual/2.3.0/

If the config is not correct in scenario A the initiator will not start up the erroneous session and so will not try to connect. Setting ContinueInitializationOnError=Y is only useful if you had multiple sessions configured in one connector and one misconfigured session should not prevent the whole connector from starting.

Because the config is the same in both scenarios, and the initiator is able to connect in scenario 2, I believe the config is correct from what I can see. Perhaps you are referring to the ConfigError that's thrown? If so, the Exception class name is misleading here as the underlying Exception is actually a SocketTimeoutException from B being shut down. It's just that the AbstractorSocketInitiator.createSessionInitiators() method will always throw ConfigError.
