I rarely use my stamp, its useful when I’m consulting for sure. I used it for a high pressure oxygen vessel for A, and for a manufacturing device for B some time ago. I don’t remember risk assumptions and insurance requirements, if any. When I consult again I’ll review those.

I remember there are laws around advertising as an ‘Engineer’ that require a PE license; I don’t know how strictly they’re enforced although I’ve seen one person fined $4,000 for advertising and not having the license.

Never used it at [medical device co].

I was not aware of our regulatory staff [sealing] our engineering submissions.

And Larry

I'm not aware of any documents that we've submitted to regulatory authorities that would require a a sealed/stamped document for an engineer. Some submissions outside the US require an apostile, but not for an engineer's signature.

I presume [the seal] will slowly become mandatory though just because lawyers. For the FDA world, I presume the precedents set in medical malpractice cases and class action lawsuits it enough incentive to "self-regulate" your design.

In the Civil world, we do not have medical malpractice insurance and class action lawsuits to regulate us. Instead we have engineering Errors & Omissions insurance and Owners that require a PE.

Whoa, let’s look into “design-build” as a comparison to bid-build. Are there standard kinds of contracts in s/w? Maybe on the gov’t contracting side of things...
