PS C:\Users\jou\code\devolutions-gateway> cargo --version

the error message does not make too much sense to me, my cargo version is

PS C:\Users\jou\code> cargo --version
cargo 1.79.0 (ffa9cf99a 2024-06-03)

I suppose this is related to changes from yesterday.

I don’t see how the change from yesterday could possibly be bad.
I suspect you hit this bug: rust-lang/rustup#988

Try this:

$ rustup component remove cargo
$ rustup component add cargo

I had to run this for it to work
rustup component add --toolchain 1.79.0-x86_64-pc-windows-msvc cargo
