[Question]: AVC difference rdna2 vs rdna3 #523

Just wanted to inquire if there was any real architectural or quality difference between the avc encoder on those 2 generations of hardware.

From HW perspective not much difference but differences in driver and firmware can produce somewhat different results.

I can say at least on linux using VAAPI i cant tell the difference between RDNA2 and RDNA3 encodes when the firmware is behaving. Its relatively easy to stick to a non broken firmware on linux but can be more complicated on windows.

TLDR: As said above it depends on the current state of the driver and firmware being loaded to the GPU
