Giswater, is an open software project, born with the goal to communicate EPANET, EPA SWMM and HEC-RAS through PostgreSQL database with any Geographic Information System (GIS). Specific interfaces have been developed to link SWMM, EPANET and HEC-RAS to PostgreSQL. Elements like pipes inventory, crossections or DEM's are stored in database tables in a natural manner. The models interact with the database receiving data and providing results. The GIS software acts as preprocessor/postprocessor interface, while all the logical relays on the database. Basic features like concurrent work or cloud computing are essential in database technology therefore are inherited by the tool here presented. Advanced database features like data mining, data driving or link to System Control and Data Adquisiton (SCADA), Web Map Services (WMS) and Customer Relationship Management Systems (CRMS) are promising areas for future developments. The experience of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia group, GITS and the consulting firm Tècnicsassociats developing advanced engineering solutions have joint forces to carry out this project.
