Check for proper error handling if files are missing

Check what happens if one of the archives is broken and add proper error handling if needed.

By archive you mean the JSON file, one of the binary files, or both?

I put this as a generic issue, as apparently there are some problems. For the start we should at least check that we get a nice error if one of the json files is missing.
