Unable to connect to reddit

Android version: 4.4.4

downloaded apk from fdroid but unable to set it up.this is the error message

while i am able to connect to reddit via browser

i am not using any vpn or netshield or anything of that sort. tried to reinstall after uninstalling but no success.
device is mi pad 1 mocha
help me in fixing this issue
