I saw the change with Box UV resizing from the commit referenced on #1794, and that small change already made it 100x easier to work with textured cuboids on the Z axis.
The same kind of change could be made for the X axis.
Currently it always extends to the right on the UV space, which matches when you resize towards West in the element space. But when resizing to the East, the right edge of the North face could be the UV origin. And when resizing in both directions at the same time, the center of the North face could be the origin.
