  • Too many mouse movements
  • Too much wasted space
  • Top bar doesn't contain things that it needs
  • Think about icon-first design
  • Move to bootstrap 3.0
  • Make it truly responsive

This way, You can always be in a position to add a link or create a group. In addition, very less space is wasted. Also there probably is no necessity to show the full link, it can possibly be shown as a tooltip if at all required.
