status of 500 (Internal Server Error) when navigating inside Django Admin

Clicking on child links inside Django admin gives me 500 error status. Everything up to http://ip/admin seems to be working fine.
However any child links after http://ip/admin, for e.g. http://ip/admin/child_link, always result in 500 error status.
Any reason for that?
I am using Django==4.0.5, django-material-admin==1.8.6 and Python 3.10.4
