What problem does your feature request solve?

Plots such as transect require a user to enter a start lat/lon, end lat/lon of model data to create a transect. It would be helpful if a static (non time varying plot) was created which shows where this transect is on a map (a map projection showing the transect as a line with some padding).
There might be similar uses for these kind of plots, such as in verification tasks to plot the locations of station data being used to calculate profiles, for example.
Loosely defined issue for now, but think there will be other use cases.

This sounds useful, as not everyone (such as myself), can intuit lat-lon pairs, especially when transecting between them. Do you have any examples of this being done, such as some example plots you like?

I do wonder if this would be better being in the description, which would require adding some more data types to that, as currently is is just markdown. It would be good to utilise the space however.
