From WP forum user esowers:

we’d like to only pull contact records that have a checkbox checked.

From same user:

The Drupal 8 Salesforce Suite accomplishes this by allowing a SOQL statement to be written in the mapping setup.

Additional context
I haven't run the Drupal 8 Salesforce suite, so I'm not sure how they do this. But it's worth considering in the mid to longer term.
