Kids in Parks Hackathon

This is the GitHub repo for the Kids in Parks mini-hackathon. This repo includes links to demonstration designs and prototypes that further the mission of the Kids in Parks initiative.

Kids in Parks NPS Site - http://www.nps.gov/kids/ Webrangers - http://www.nps.gov/webrangers/ - WebRangers is the "online extension of the Junior Ranger program." There is a structure here that is similar in many ways to badging.

Schedule

We'll work together to develop designs and / or prototypes that address three key opportunities related to granting, accepting and revoking admission to parks for 4th graders. The hackathon will follow a modified Agile framework, with pitch sessions throughout the iterative review process. The hackathon will investigate technology solutions for three types of users: youth - including those coming from disadvantaged backgrounds, employees that grant entrance to parks, teachers and parents. (Coming soon: user stories!)

  • 1:00 - 1:20 PM Intro to Kids in Parks initiative and format of the hackathon.
  • 1:20 PM - 2:00 PM - Round 1 - scoping of challenge, initial concept prototyping
  • 2:00 PM - 2:15 PM - Round 1 Presentations
  • 2:15 PM - 3:00 PM - Round 2 - Continuation of prototyping activity
  • 3:00 PM - 3:15 PM - Round 2 Presentations
  • 3:15 PM - 4:00 PM - Round 3 - Continuation of prototyping activity
  • 4:00 PM - 4:15 PM - Round 3 FINAL Presentations
  • 4:15 PM - 4:30 PM - Wrap-up

Super-simple, non-technical workflow for completion of activities to secure fee entrance pass:

On-line Registration #1

  • Fill out form questionnaire (quiz?)
  • Email form to parent, teacher, or guardian for digital signature (could be entering a captcha! code)
  • Submit form to ...

On-line Registration #2

  • Fill out form questionnaire (quiz?)
  • Print out responses
  • Take to parent, teacher or guardian for signature
  • Scan the signed copy
  • Email signed copy to ....

Off-line Registration

  • Print out form, complete responses
  • Take to parent, teacher or guardian for signature
  • Mail paper form to....
