Cannot log in as Root after removing Wheels group from anon

I removed the Wheels group from anon in order to prevent the default user from running root commands without password. I tried logging in as root: Username root and no password, but after the login screen no UI elemnts show up. As long as there isn't a virtual console interface, I can't become root and don't have access to the terminal. Has a TTY interace already been implemented?

After logging in as root, no UI. Shortcuts also don't work.
