May be it will be more flexible to use gradle?

Since I don't have much experience with gradle, I would consider it as a breaking change in v.2. It could be a candidate to review in v.3. If we agree on the benefits of switching to gradle. As of now I personally can't think of any issues caused by maven, but I never specifically look for them.
