More Obvious Start and Stop Notifications

I've been using the application for about a year. Really enjoy it but I find myself not hearing the stop noise over music or if I get up from my computer for a break, I don't hear when the break ends. My solution would be to increase the volume and/or some sort of animation to alert the user its break or work time. This application I was using on Linux would do a full screen notification that told you its work or break time.

If this is a worthwhile idea, can I get some ideas on a starting place for me to try and start implementing this?
