When using certain special characters in your password when adding a user, this can make it impossible to connect via Tinfoil. Characters I have personally tested and noticed an issue with are listed below:

disable the use of special characters in user creation/update form:
special characters are not supported in HTTP AUTH unless Tinfoil is updated for this.

Simply reject any non UTF-8 characters and : @ & / ? # =
