Design Software or Tools that Identify the Path of a Particle or an Oil Spill Using Imagery

Background

Design Software or Tools that Identify the Path of a Particle or an Oil Spill Using Imagery. We could use images or videos from my lab (latest twitters to #ESClindo), satellite images from the BP oil spill publicly available though GOMRI, the Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative, or data from a real dye release experiment in Florida (I would have to contact a colleague down in Miami for the latter).

Solutions

Ultimately we would like to understand...

Try to think about these topics while you explore...

Some possible solutions might be:

  • Prediction of the ultimate fate of a spill. Is it possible to predict with neural networks or computer vision where a spill will ultimately end up?

  • A "deep dream" oil spill generator. Can we train a deep learning neural network in such a way as to help better understand images of oil spills?

  • Anything else you can think of!
