I am behind Great China FireWall in Beijing, sharing Internet connection with 1000 colleagues.

So while I can download some movies at 5MB/s, access to international resource is picky. e.g. all google* servers are not avaialble (together with Facebook, Twitter, Youtube)

Internet id different in China.

Consider it as general, slow and unreliable Internet connection, that can loose packages

With system properties you can increase timeout, else it's default timeout of the JVM
