Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

If we don't have an automated testing suite, we should at the very least have a procedure of human-followable instructions to check that the code works.

Describe the solution you'd like

  • An automated testing suite for cpp library functions
    • unit tests

Describe alternatives you've considered
Alternatives listed in solution above.

Additional context
