I just was wondering to have an option to set a custom screen resolution.

similar like this:

dwl output HDMI-A-1 mode --custom 1680x1050@50

See the monitorconfig patch in the wiki patches (from the monfig branch in contributor @PalanixYT 's repo).

EDIT: Also, see @sevz17 's PR #301

You can also take a look at wlr-randr, and xrandr alternative for wayland

I use the autostart patch as a more holistic approach to deal with similar concerns.

  • The autostart patch in my case launches a script at $HOME/.local/share/dwl/autostart.sh
  • For now, I only have an entry for wlr-randr
  • In the future, I'm hoping to also add an entry for swhkd
    • That would replace my usage of the chainkeys patch for an emacs-like "prefix key"
    • That would require something similar to dwmc (maybe an updated and more complete IPC patch???)

For now, I'm only "playing around" with dwl, but I'm hoping to fully transition to from xorg+dwm to wayland+dwl this year.

Sorry, but what does this have to do with this issue?
The wlr-randr approach was already mencioned.

I think that most people would either want

  • A patch that takes care of "everything" (maybe monitorconfig as mentioned by fauxmight)
  • Or a patch that can allow them to set the resolution and "maybe some more"

My intent was only about emphasizing the "maybe some more" part, and not necessarily ignore or negate/duplicate your answer. I'm sorry that you might have felt that way or that you may see my comment as low value-added @krypciak .
