Let's say that we have desktop file /usr/share/applications/firefox.desktop whose Name is Firefox Web Browser and GenericName is Web Browser. If Firefox Web Browser is selected, Web Browser's history will be also increased even though the user has't selected this option. I believe increasing history of an entry that hasn't been selected can be unintuitive.

The current history file format saves the number of history occurrences and the ID of the desktop file. I believe it would be more intuitive to save history for names rather than desktop files.
