Kalam mode not working when moving files from Sequoia to Android 14 device

Legacy mode works okay but not Kalam mode when transferring files from a Mac M2 to a relatively new Teclast tablet. It seems a bit odd because I thought Legacy mode was for older devices? What happens...

After dragging a file from the mac to the tablet the transfer window pops up but the 2 bars stay at 0% completed.

At 30 secs the right (tablet) side window changes to the FAQ screen and an error message pops up saying Unlock your phone and refresh again. However, Device unlock in the android device is set to None so it shouldn't be an issue. I've tried locking it with a PIN and unlocking it but that didn't work. I've also restarted both devices a number of times. USB Hotplug is off.

Transferring files from the tablet to the computer works fine in both Kalam and Legacy modes. But, as mentioned, not from mac to the tablet.
When testing it on another device (Samsung Galaxy S9) everything transfers smoothly in Kalam mode in both directions.

Not sure if it's a bug or a setting on my tablet but I haven't been able to find it.
