  • erratum: scp.img firmware loading fails and creates a warning in boot messages - harmless as it only affects the newly added venc and vdec support and it will be fixed in future kernel versions

  • this is just an experimental testing image to be able to get started with linux on this type of machines
  • see: https://github.com/hexdump0815/imagebuilder/tree/main/systems/chromebook_corsola
  • kernel version used: v5.15.108 based on the chromeos r114 kernel sources as there is no useable mainline support for mt8186 yet
  • minimal testing has been done on a magneton chromebook (lenovo cb ideapad slim 3)
  • debian bookworm only for now
  • no gpu support and other things might not work as well (but looks like it is quite useable anyway)
  • audio is not working due to intentionally not yet included firmware, if one adds it from chromeos it might be possible to get audio working, but everything like that is done at your own risk and might break the speakers or be not good for the ears in the worst case (i had it working, but also had some strange and not so healthy sounds while playing around with it)

  • for more information see: https://github.com/hexdump0815/imagebuilder/blob/main/systems/snapdragon_835/readme.md
  • those images are very much work in progress and only ment for others who might want to help brining up linux support for such systems - they are basically running, but a lot of things are not working yet or not properly yet, so they are really nothing for daily use - use them at your own risk as the bringup of those systems is still in its very early stages
  • currently supported are the asus novago, someone booted the last image successful on a lenovo miix 630 and it might also work on the hp envy x2 (there are entries for all three in the grub menu)
  • this image is essentially just a move to a newer kernel (v6.1 lts), a move from debian bullseye to bookworm, it switches from ext4 to btrfs as root fs and it has a few little fixes and improvements here and there
  • username/password is linux/changeme and the hostname is set to changeme as well
  • in case an image should not properly boot on your system, then please add a comment here: #130
  • in case everything is working well, feel free to leave a comment here: #141
