Thanks for this hint! I can confirm this.

For me (on a mac) the path was

  • for Chrome: /Users/<Username>/Library/Application Support/BraveSoftware/Brave-Browser/Default/Local Extension Settings/chphlpgkkbolifaimnlloiipkdnihall
  • for Brave: /Users/<Username>/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome/Default/Local Extension Settings/chphlpgkkbolifaimnlloiipkdnihall

By copying this folder over I was able to successfully move the full OneTab tabs from Chrome to Brave. This included the tab group headlines that i was missing when using the normal OneTab export.

I didn't test the backupOneTab script itself but I created a pull request that changes the path accordingly.

This seems to solve #2
