buttons don't color correctly(?) + idk how to size title bar buttons

uhhh... im a COMPLETE beginner, absolute noob to html. clarification.

the edges dont color correctly (and/or i have no idea how i should go about trying to change the color)
...and not necessarily your problem but the underline on the M is black instead of the white i (tried to) set it to.
additionally --

yuck.
one more thing (question, moreso), how would i go about making the title bar's background color(????) not be a gradient and instead be a solid dark blue?
