How to get started
The TbSync Add-On is listed in the Mozilla Add-On repository. To install the official version of TbSync, open Mozilla Thunderbird, go to the Add-On page and search for "TbSync". Install TbSync from the results list.
The official version might not be the latest release. To install the latest release, download the "XPI" file from the latest github release page, open Mozilla Thunderbird, go to the Add-On page, click on the gear icon located in the upper right corner, select "Install from file ..." and select the downloaded XPI file. Thunderbird will ask to be restarted.
After the Add-On has been installed successfully, the current status of the Add-On is shown in the lower right corner of the main Thunderbird window. A single click on that status field will open the TbSync account manager.
There is not much to see, if there have not yet been defined any accounts. Click on the + symbol to add a new account.
Choose a name to identify the ActiveSync account, enter the user name (probably an email address) and your password. Most ActiveSync server support an automated configuration process called Autodiscover. If this is not working for your ActiveSync account, you have to select the custom configuration and enter the server details by yourself.
A fully configured account will look like this:
Below the server settings, there are a few additional settings. They will be described later.
To connect the account and to initialize synchronization, click on Connect account. The dialog will hide the configuration options and retrieve and display the list of folders available on the ActiveSync server:
TbSync supports contact folders, tasks folders and calendar folders. The default folders will be synchronized automatically. To subscribe/unsubscribe a folder, double click on it.
The status of each folder will contain the name of the local synchronized item: The default calendar of the shown outlook account has been synchronized to a Thunderbird calendar called Kalender (Outlook) and the default address book has been synchronized to a Thunderbird address book called Kontakte (Outlook). You are free to change these auto-generated names. If you delete one of these local items, they will be recreated during the next synchronization.
