The MLO device adapter currently uses a legacy ASCII command set. I believe that is the reason why we cannot use voltage control of the LCs while the device adapter is loaded. Updating to the new command set should solve this issue, as it allows to easily put the controller in external input mode.

This development can happen after the device adapter is merged into the upstream repo
