Need update to amazing peek tool #27839

Seconding this request. Peek allows previewing images and PDFs, but not .doc/docx (Word), .xls/xlsx (Excel), or .ppt/pptx (PowerPoint) files. The macOS equivalent (Quick Look) can preview these files on a totally different operating system. The same functionality should be in place for the Peek tool, made by Microsoft, for Microsoft Windows, to preview Microsoft Office documents. |
With #28690, Peek currently supports preview handlers which will support (in the best way they can) .doc/docx (Word), .xls/xlsx (Excel), or .ppt/pptx (PowerPoint) files. I think you would need to have Office installed to be able to preview them. Outside of this, we haven't found an easy way to achieve previewing such files yet. |
Strange, because I have Office installed and yet Peek can't preview them, at all. I have PowerToys v0.73.0 installed, but the thread you linked to was from September, so doesn't look like anything has changed on this front since then, and thus it doesn't seem like installing a newer version of PowerToys is going to fix this. Preview handlers seem to work fine otherwise because I can view the docs natively in File Explorer's Preview pane. |
Yeah, something is not working correctly with the preview handlers. Some of my office files do not preview as well, it is quite inconsistent. |
Description of the new feature / enhancement
Needs updates to peek tools
Peek tools is an amazing feature
But it lacks some features like it is unable to view excel files , ppt files etc. It must be able to do so for it to be more functional we and if the option to peek into folders it will be much more interesting
Finally I would also prefer to change dark to light tool directly from the peek preview
Scenario when this would be used?
We work just like many with a lot of excel files and I believe most of us do and use excel and hence in them it is easy to get lost and hence if powertoys extends its support is very much appreciatable thankyou!
