Summary

Non-ASCII characters, such as ä, aren't recognized by mupen during hotkey assignment.

UTF-8 composite characters, such as Japanese kanji, cause the first keystroke to be registered.

Repro

  1. Choose de-DE or jp-JP keyboard layout
  2. Try assigning a hotkey
  3. Observe keys not matching what was pressed

Expected behavior

The keys should match what was pressed and the hotkeys should work.
