The contribute translation documentation should be extended with information on testing translations.

Export ts file from Weblate?
Use ts file from GitHub master
Where to place files (see also recent commit improving the situation)
Note that only existing, app-bundled translations can be selected in settings if it is not a OS language

This is probably too much to embed this in the contribute page. It should probably become a subpage. Or some other structuring.

Not anymore. You can overwrite the chosen locale via command-line argument
