How long does it take to have >10 threads reading and processing (filtering) different chunks (or the same) in a file stored locally. ... we should also see an improvement for massively parallel processing of a local file, given that HDF5-based file formats cannot be read concurrently, at least in the BigDataViewer implementation in Java.
