SEPAL is using a specific version of the GEE API to avoid using ee.Authenticate once you are connected via the platform interface.

Some users (https://groups.google.com/g/sepal-users/c/-5B7nPy2RtE/m/m4zIIh-OAwAJ?utm_medium=email&utm_source=footer) tried the old fashioned one, there should be a document describing it.
