Testing using GNOME Maps 48 nightly, I can see that it has buses (some of which have rather… unlikely straight lines :) :

…but it never offers any MTR results.

The MTR is not specifically listed in https://mobilitydatabase.org/feeds?q=hong+kong (presumably the item listed there is the buses feed, I suppose coming from here), so what I found by searching "MTR" "GTFS" is only these pages from https://data.gov.hk :

…in the hope that maybe it could be directly usable data for Transitous and the apps that depend on it.

In there you can see that they also have documentation, API specs, and that it is also possible to mail them at opendata @ mtr.com.hk … or maybe @sammyfung can help open some doors ;)

It seems the bus feeds have very incomplete geo data, the "straight lines flying right through a zoo" situation seems generalized, I'm not sure if from your side you can see what's wrong and how to tell the authorities to fix their feeds (if applicable):

For broader context, there is also the HK's Transport Department "Consolidated Annual Open Data Plan (Spatial Data Plan included) for 2024 to 2026" document out there, listing all the datasets they're supposed to have released.

To me that looks like the feed might not have any shapes, and we just connect the stop positions.

For the missing data, you can try adding it in a pull request. The CI should tell you if the data was usable or not.

Interesting project! I will take a look at what I can contribute.
