seeing past events in "upcoming events" is confusing (second day is still in the future)

On Jan 20, I looked at the home page and saw:

I was confused at first and assumed it was a bug. I only looked deeper at it because I wanted to report the bug, and then I noticed it is a multi-day event with some days in the future.

• Monday, January 15, 2018: Volunteer Training
• Friday, January 26, 2018: Installfest
• Saturday, January 27, 2018: Workshop

Not sure what the best solution is... a quick fix would be to hide the past event time like this:

Longer-term, it might be good to separate volunteer opportunities from student sign-ups.
