多年以来，加州大学旧金山分校糖尿病教育中心的临床团队，在玛莎诺尔特肯尼迪医生的率领之下，一直设想着创建一个网上教育资源，服务于1型和2型糖尿病患者。作为美国最早的糖尿病教育项目，以及开创“强化自我管理疗法”的先驱，临床团队的成员一直担心其有限的资源不能有效地服务于如此众多的糖尿病患者。美国的糖尿病患病率不断增长，然而糖尿病医疗保健人员却远远没有相应增加，这就越来越强地困扰着我们的临床团队。为了帮助不断增长的糖尿病人群，方法的创新是必不可少的。很自然的，肯尼迪医生和她的团队把眼光投向了国际互联网
