Unfortunately I did not manage to find the time to look into this. At this point I'm going to be taking a break for a few months, so I am unassigning myself from this issue. However, it does seem like progress has been made on #58375 (comment) |

Note, that the pipeline uses the stable toolchain, but I tested it in nightly with:
RUST_BACKTRACE=1 cargo +nightly kcov --verbose -- --include-path=$PWD/src --exclude-region="mod tests"
