For the 'suggestions' inputMode when a user types a partial search then uses the arrow keys or the mouse to hover over a suggestion in the dropdown, the text in the searchbox is updated to match. If, however, the input loses focus (i.e. the user clicks away or hits tab) before the search is submitted, the text does not revert back to the original partial query.
As a consequence, the value of "q" as last reported by the instantPipeline is the partial query, and not the value shown in the input.
I have reproduced this in the attached gif, where a user types "medic" then uses arrow keys to highlight "medical ethics" then uses the tab key to change focus to another element.
