Enhance documentation for runSubscription vs emitOn

As a new comer on reactive programming, I had a hard time understanding what these 2 functions do, especially, while trying to write 2 operations with one that is not blocking downstream execution.
It's hard to figure out how and when to use them.
Could you provide a more detailed/advanced example that would look like this thread on RxJava on stackoverflow?
Particularly the one with a summary in it.

I think it would save us a lot time searching for a good example and ease the learning curve.
