Add line-string using tags

Is it possible to add a line-string feature that does not exist in the osm.pbf data during lua file processing?
New point features can be added using way:LayerAsCentroid but I can't see a method to add a new line-string.

The reason for asking is that I would like to process point features that contain tags with range and bearing and add a new line-string feature that can be used to render tiles containing the range and bearing lines.
