We either:

  • shouldn't be attempting to determine a direct command when a standard -- / ++ command matches, OR
  • explicitly ignore -- / ++ etc. in the direct command logic

It could also be handled as a combination of sayThankYou and points added to the bot possibly resulting in two lines reporting the new score and then the Thank You random response.
