Proposing with @awright that we have a channel to discussion the emerging use, and variations of how "open source AI" is being described and how an OSPO might influence and drive language, strategy, use in an organization or institution.

Also share what we are learning here, its an evolving and growing space

Thanks for submitting this channel creation proposal @emmairwin ! The creation of this channel is approved and can proceed without formal Steering Committee approval through gtivote. Below is the reasoning of why this proposal is approved:

• Creating a topic-focused channel on AI/GenAI aligns with the 2024 strategic goals in TODO and the proposed 2025 objectives about supporting verticals and technologies where OSPOs are specializing, such as AI technology and compliance integration within organizations (more info here). These goals have already been reviewed and approved by SC members.

• It aligns with the growing intersection of OSPOs & AI, as shown in the latest State of OSPO and Open Source Management research study, which found that 84% of OSPOs are involved in developing or managing GenAI infrastructure. (more info here). In light of these results and given that TODO’s mission is to identify key policy and process choices related to open source management and engagement within organizations and create tools and educational materials that promote best practices, enabling spaces where open source managers working in organizations can discuss GenAI integration challenges and best practices is a reasonable activity for TODO to support within the community.

Suggestion and action needed to formalize channel creation

I suggest naming the channel #topic-oss-ai, keeping it consistent with the format used for other specific topic areas in TODO Slack (e.g., #topic-compliance, #topic-security, etc.).
