UTF-8 support would be nice.

In 2018 there was a valiant soul who made an attempt, initially as a separate branch in Han Boetes' fork. However, after some feedback on the list, in particular from Theo de Raadt, it was abandoned.

Hence, a first step would be to make Mg 8-bit clean.
