There is a version of osgworks on GitHub that has a number of fixes that make it compatible with newer versions of OSG. It is not owned by the original author of the library (who has retired), but seems to be defacto official version nowadays. I think it should be merged into this package so that uwsim can run on modern systems.
The problem is that this repo and the osgworks repo where separately converted from the original SVN repo on Google code, so they have unrelated histories.
You could either rebase this repo on the upstream one, rewriting its history, or cherry-pick the patches without unifying the histories.

As you mentioned incompatibility problems, I am curious what is the official OSG version that this code is supposed to be compiled with? I also tried to compare this repo with https://github.com/mccdo/osgworks and I cannot find any common history. Are there any significant differences I should be aware of?
