Educational Materials #10
Comments
Blog posts and social media should be in that list. Education is a constant process. Also, do we want to have sample material that people can use to put into their RFPs? Sample language to encourage folks to build in sustainability best practices when they are building their next project? Maybe that isn't education. Not sure. I am looking to see if we can include some content within https://github.com/usds/ditap-curriculum-update |
We do have our internal campaign toolkit (where our work has been featured etc) that we've been using to keep track of such efforts, this hasn't been made public yet as there is some question about external promotion and W3C policy. RE sample material, the CG did have a press pack that you made previously, and its on the todo list to be refreshed for the IG in due course and definitely having sample language and useful snippets is something that could be really useful! |
Curious to understand if it is appropriate to include such educational resources in the guidelines themselves? I see that the guidelines have a resources section in the "Additional content" section. |
If we provided high quality educational materials explicitly for each guideline, we could potentially attach it to each guideline (it would depend on the material type as to where it would be best suited within), otherwise another option could be providing a supplement with a link in the head of the WSG (if it covers the whole spec), or if its just general resources, links within the GitHub repository and our other pages to promote it. |
It might be interesting to create a calendar whereby we give focus to one of the guidelines every few days. This is meant to appeal to the people who like spaced repetition style of learning. |
Issue: Helping spread the word about sustainability and the WSG will require producing educational materials in order to break down the complex talking points within the specification. Specifications are (after all) lengthy documents that can be intimidating for people to read and we need to do our best to encourage widespread adoption.
Considerations: This can be done both within the IG and from the extended community. Outreach will be important in helping our work gain traction. Using multiple different mediums will also be incredibly important as different people prefer consuming content in different ways. Ideas include: eBooks, Infographics, Podcasts, Courses, Events, Workshops, etc.
