Choice of Game Genre

Narrative, exploring the game with several mini-games embedded into the game which are separate from the game world.

Choice of Target Audience and Player Type

Our game is targeted at high school students, specifically female students in their final year of high school who take Physics and Calculus and are interested in studying Engineering.

Overall Goal and Storyline

ONE DAY or DAY ONE follows the player visiting the University on Enginuity day, where the player can interact with various NPCs and visit stalls with mini-games to play. The game evaluates the player and raises awareness for different types of engineering that they might be suited to based on certain choices they make through the game and how well they perform on the mini-games.

Central Character

The central character is a high school student (assumed female but not necessarily), who is visiting the University for Enginuity Day for the first time. The basic functionality of the character will be exploring the game world, talking with NPCs and other players, entering mini-games and playing them. In mini-games, based on the type, mechanism, and goal, there will be different elements and characters.

Game World

The game background is the Engineering building at the University of Auckland, the world will basically be one or two levels of lobbies. There will be NPCs or other players standing or wandering in the foyers. The character can interact with the NPCs who will answer questions asked by the player (e.g. Why do you study engineering, what is your favourite thing about your specialisation?). The players can play the mini-games to gain some ideas about what they will learn in an Engineering degree for the different specialisations (e.g. scores, suggestions, etc.) on their play.

Scoring and Live Mechanisms

Scoring exists inside of the mini-games, potentially lives depending on the individual games. Total scoring across the game, results given in the student services stall.

Level Generation

Placement of NPC's will be randomised, and there will be an aspect of randomness in the different mini-games.
